Will Showcase Data Security Built for Ultra-Lightweight Armv8-M based Edge Devices to Microsoft Azure Cloud at Embedded World 2018

SEATTLE, WA – February 26, 2018 – CENTRI, a leading provider of advanced security for the Internet of Things, today announced CENTRI Internet of Things Advanced Security – IoTAS has achieved industry-leading performance metrics over open source security standards on small edge devices. A series of recent performance tests validated by Arm, the world’s leading semiconductor IP company showed when performing like functions, CENTRI IoTAS was between 50 and 240 times faster than the open source components. CENTRI, an Arm® Mbed™ partner, will demonstrate IoTAS data security on the Armv8-M architecture using a Nuvoton Arm Cortex®-M23 based micro-controller edge device connected to Microsoft Azure cloud. The demonstration will be at the Arm booth, hall 4, #4-140, February 27 to March 1 at Embedded World 2018, Nuremberg, Germany. The Cortex-M23 processor is built for small, low-power IoT and embedded products. The IoTAS demonstration will demonstrate a complete solution providing encryption and compression of IoT data from capture to cloud. The tiny footprint and low resource requirements ensure small, low-energy devices can feature heavyweight security.

IoT Projects Expected to Deliver Payback in Less Than Three Years, Says New Fujitsu Survey

Munich, October 10, 2018 – According to a new Fujitsu survey1 published today, Internet of Things (IoT) technology has reached early mainstream, with business and IT leaders expecting tangible results in three years or less – signaling that the days of simply experimenting with IoT projects are now consigned to the past..

Fujitsu commissioned IDG Connect to better understand how IoT technology is maturing in the enterprise, and to gauge industry expectations. The results confirm that the IoT has already matured far beyond being an emerging technology and underline that enterprises are increasingly impatient when it comes to IoT delivering a boost to their bottom line.

Almost three quarters of respondents (73 percent) confirmed that IoT deployments have advanced well beyond the testing and market education stages, with almost half of these delivering results. Underlining this increased focus on payback, the Fujitsu survey conducted by IDG Connect found that almost a third (31 percent) expect a return from investments in IoT projects within one to two years, and 56 percent expect profitability within three years.

Due to the complexity of the IoT, enterprises are turning to services and equipment providers to assist with deployments. However, the survey also indicates that suppliers are failing to deliver. Major concerns are the need for better support (24 percent), closer collaboration so that vendors understand their customer’s unique needs (23 percent), a call for lower pricing (20 percent), greater contractual flexibility (17 percent) and more readily available as-a-service options (15 percent).

It’s clear from the survey results that enterprises are already enjoying solid return on investment from IoT projects. This should be a compelling incentive to dip a toe in the water for any organization that’s still skeptical about getting any business value from the IoT.”

IoT now early mainstream across a wide spectrum of use cases
Fujitsu’s survey also reveals that businesses are using IoT for a wide range of purposes, far beyond the delivery of process efficiencies. In fact, the joint-highest survey responses were for improving health and safety (47 percent), enhancing security (47 percent), in using newly-available data to create smarter strategies (47 percent), as well as improving maintenance (46 percent).

In addition, 45 percent of businesses are already using IoT to generate new revenue-making opportunities, and a quarter of respondents consider the biggest opportunity to be the ability to charge premium prices for valuable additions to products, data or services. Furthermore, just over a fifth (22 percent) of respondents cited the ability to cost-effectively create better and more differentiated services to attract new customers.

BlackBerry Empowers the Electronics Industry to Build IoT Devices Consumers Can Trust

CES 2019 – LAS VEGAS – January 7, 2019 – BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB; TSX: BB) today announced it is scaling its BlackBerry Secure technology and licensing strategy to empower the electronics industry to rapidly bring-to-market safe and secure IoT devices.

According to a recent survey commissioned by the company, approximately 80% of consumers in the U.S., U.K. and Canada do not trust their current Internet-connected devices to secure their data and privacy. Additionally, when asked about future purchases, respondents said they were more likely to choose a product or do business with a company that had a strong reputation for data security and privacy.

The company’s new BlackBerry Secure feature packs address this concern and buying preference by giving IoT device manufacturers the trusted software and proven framework to securely build smart products – from health trackers to Alexa-enabled speakers – without having to develop the technology and deep cybersecurity expertise internally.

To ensure the products have been developed to our standards, BlackBerry’s team of cybersecurity experts review the device. Following this process, the product will be deemed BlackBerry Secure, a recognized symbol of data security and trust.

Available today, OEMs will have the choice of the following feature packs which build upon each other and provide various levels of management and control:

BlackBerry Secure Enablement Feature Pack: The enablement pack offers secure manufacturing and product lifecycle management features. Specifically, BlackBerry will provide a manufacturing station that provides a hardware Root of Trust and is connected to the company’s Network Operation Center that is monitored 24/7 for uptime and reliability. During manufacturing, a BlackBerry Secure Identity Service Key is injected into the hardware and recorded on a secure server. Both at launch and periodically throughout the product’s lifecycle, checks are performed to verify that the two keys match. If they do not, the device no longer boots.

BlackBerry Secure Foundations Feature Pack: In addition to hardening the operating system kernel, the Foundations Pack locks down software being executed with Secure Boot and ARM Trustzone technology to securely generate, use and store encryption keys used for various software operations. It also includes the BlackBerry Integrity Detection (BID) service which various components (kernel, Pathtrust, SELinux, etc) across the software stack, and generates real-time ‘health’ reports that can be accessed by users and trusted third-party applications.

BlackBerry Secure Enterprise Feature Pack: The Enterprise Pack is ideal for devices that will be used in regulated or restricted environments as it enables deeper management and control beyond what is standard in Android Enterprise. Through extended device management policies deployed on the device, enterprises can protect their data by controlling what can be accessed via device debug interfaces, communication protocols (Bluetooth, NFC), and radios (cellular, WIFI, GPS). It is also able to set policies which add baseline security for certifications such as FIPS.
